Distant Dimension Festival 2018 [Review and Photos]

Distant Dimension festival florida house music

Once upon a time, in a Distant Dimension far far away…

We embarked on a journey from our hometown of Jacksonville to a Distant Dimension in a galaxy far away.  Maddox Ranch in Lakeland, Florida was the space for the first ever Distant Dimension Festival and featured a star-studded lineup of quality house music DJs and producers.  We were excited as soon as we saw the lineup.  This was a flyer that would be seen in Miami or Tulum but for all of these artists to land in a conveniently located place in central Florida was a blessing.

We went into this experience with great expectations that were met and exceeded.  The vibe was great and everyone who attended was in high spirits despite the temperatures dropping into the 30’s on Saturday and Sunday night.  Both stages were equipped with strategically places fire pits on the perimeters and a big stack of firewood to keep the party going.  The festival was intimate and fun, we met cool people from all over the state who came to enjoy the music and experience something new.

This festival was international and intergalactic bringing eclectic artists like Fur Coat from Caracas, Venezuela, Blond:ish and Kenny Glasgow from Canada.  The girl power was strong with female DJs Ms. Mada, Oona Dahl and the fantastic Francesca Lombardo who had just played at Club Space in Miami with the legendary Maceo Plex the night before.  The artists on the Distant Dimension lineup are some heavy hitters, traveling all over the world to play top tier clubs and parties that showcase the best house and techno DJs in the world.  The production crew was on point setting up two unique stages, the larger one featuring an impressive Funktion One sound system and 3D projection mapping with mind blowing visuals.  The attention to detail put into this event by everyone involved was nothing short of magic.

The music we heard over the weekend was diverse from a beautiful chilled out morning set on Sunday by Brian Busto to the progressive and deep set that Fur Coat threw down as the sun as setting to the pumping funky basslines that Jesse Perez and Latmun played Saturday night.  Although the music “officially” ended at 11, the party didn’t stop.  Oona Dahl blessed us Sunday night keeping the vibes going and drinking red wine to stay warm.  We were blessed to be able to see Low Steppa perform Saturday night, he has come into the spotlight recently making an incredible remix of “Cola” by Camelphat.

Thank you to the promoters, performers and attendees of Distant Dimension Festival, we had a wonderful time and can’t wait to see this concept blossom!
