Last weekend, Florida got triple appearances by Christian Martin beginning Friday night at Cash Only in Ft. Lauderdale. Continuing the next day in Jacksonville, Christian brought a selection of bouncy tech-house and heavy basslines to Myth Nightclub before heading down to Elixir Orlando on Sunday for a free day party.
We had the pleasure of attending the Jacksonville show. Beginning with a lively birthday set by London-native / Jacksonville-resident, DJ Love Lee, Saturday night was set to be a rager from the start. (Be sure to check for Love Lee as a regular live DJ on House Junkies tv). KT Slawson and the M.Z.G. twins kept the decks warm as the opening acts for Martin. With only a short time left in Duval before moving to Colorado, the duo wasn’t holding back any energy as they readied the dance floor for the headliner. Outside on the Myth patio, iBay spun an open format of top 40 and dance.
Highlighting associates on his label, Trippy Ass Technologies, as well as his own tracks including a collaboration with Ghettoblaster and DJ Ford, Martin blended together a seamless Saturday night soundtrack. The founder of Trippy Ass Technologies and Dirtybird BBQ co-founder premieres his latest EP, “My Speaker Freaker (A-side) / Cold Morning (B-side)” (Preview below and order on Beatport).
I spoke with The Trippy Techno Martian before his set in Jacksonville and learned “Speaker Freaker” is the eighth release on T.A.T. and the label will be hosting showcases around the U.S. with some upcoming appearances in our region. With further investigation I discovered T.A.T. donates 5% of profits from music, merchandise, and events toward music programs in public schools at www.donorschoose.org. Continuing west on I-4 the next day, Martin wasn’t slowing down any for the Orlando patio party. The free event hosted by Vizion 1 was maxed out and ready to get down.
