[Review and Photos] Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2017

Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2017

Jacksonville Jazz Festival is the longest running free jazz fest in the country and each year gets better and better. As a Jacksonville resident for the last 30 years, I’ve been able to enjoy the sounds of smooth and progressive jazz in the packed downtown streets with friends and family and each year brings me closer to them through music. As the festival grows, not only in shear mass but also in notoriety, the names on the bill become more and more recognizable.

This year’s headliners were nothing short of spectacular. Funk and soul juggernauts The Commodores, 22-time Grammy winner Chick Corea and saxophone virtuoso Kamasi Washington anchored an absolutely stellar lineup from top to bottom. Each headliner left the crowd in complete awe of the beauty of great jazz music and showed that it’s the music that helps bind us together in harmonic unity.

With each year getting better and better it begs the question, “What is in store for next year?”
