Here’s a little preview of what to expect this weekend at Purple Hatter’s Ball, from our friends at Brotherly Love Productions….
“There’s a strong connection in the North Florida triangle of Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Gainesville; and in the middle, there’s the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. The Rachel Morningstar Hoffman story is a tragic one indeed, however this tight community of music family pull together to celebrate her life at the annual Purple Hatters Ball held at this beautiful music park. With a solid assortment of acts from around the southeast; the three day, two stage line-up offers a lil something for everyone.

Friday night is basically an AURA showcase. Papadosio, The Malah and Zoogma provide the full spectrum of IDM. These guys are all in the same class, so look forward to sit-ins and collaborations making it a night of endless potential. There was also a decent buzz about FLT RSK after their Blackwater set last summer, so forget the campsite run and get an ear full.
Emancipator
No one is hotter or more “headnodic” right now than the down-tempo eclectic samplings of Emancipator. Do yourself a favor and be a participator in his headlining set on Saturday to find out what all the hype’s about but make sure to save some energy for the glitchy crunk DJ/producer/saxophonic stylings of Big Gigantic. Although they hail from Colorado, BG seems to spend a lot of time in the SE, and we love them for that! Greenhouse Lounge and brethren Monozygotic add to the jamtronic soundscape acting as a warm-up to the swamp rock and funk of Stillwood, Catfish Alliance and The funky Meters’ Russell Batiste Band. Make sure to lace your shoes tight because Saturday is a marathon. Make sure to take some time and wander through the Purple Hatter’s Silent Art Auction to check out the donated art of Vorcan, Brian Bernard, Jarred Tranthem, Meghan McKendree, Spuniverse Nebulae, Christina Kittle and more and consider purchasing a piece from these great regional artists to support a great cause!
*Attn: SoFlo…for those unable to attend PHB, Emancipator will be performing at Tobacco Road in Miami on Friday night!
Big Gigantic
Florida stalwarts the Burnin’ Smyrnans, Savi Fernandez Band and Trial By Stone anchor Sunday with their unique shore culture influences before ducking the spotlight for Georgia’s DubConscious who will wrap it up at a respectable hour giving all a fair chance to catch their breath before returning to the real world.
